Sustainability Sioux Falls:

Farmer Meg of IronFox Farm has been advocating for ways the city can support sustainable practices, including urban agriculture. In recent city happenings, the actionable Sustainable Sioux Falls Plan (previously known as the “Sustainability and Climate Action Plan”) that was developed by a multi-disciplinary steering committee was replaced with a framework developed by Mayor TenHaken that did not have the collective steering committee’s input nor support. The new framework has a fraction of the plans’ goals, and the goals remaining no longer have action-oriented verbiage. The framework is not to be voted on by the city council, but instead “the framework is meant to act as a guide for work done within the City of Sioux Falls when sustainability is part of the conversation” (See the framework from the city’s website). The city council had its first public hearing of the framework, and Megan’s testimony is quoted by SDPB journalist Madeline Grabow here and in Sioux Falls Simplified’s Megan Raposa here. If you’d like more information about the sustainability plan and how to get involved, please see SoDak350’s website.
